Point cloud data from images

ShapeScan_SM DSM can be merged with other scanned data and provides comparable accuracy of other scanning systems. Model accuracy is verified within the PolyWorks IMInspect/IMSurvey module.

ShapeScan_SM: For this application the image is post processed with the ShapeCapture files and calibration data. First order survey control is obtained for image control and all data is run through the photogrammetric bundle program. Point resolution for this example is 5 mm grid and elevation point accuracy of 1 mm, a Polygon mesh is created, mono bitmap and ShapeCapture parameters used for precise texture mapping used for this 3D example. Mapping road track sections like this creates over 120 million points.

Point cloud data from images

ShapeScan_SM can be used almost anywhere to acquire 3D point cloud data, indoors or outdoors You can use one or several cameras, in this case 2 cameras were mounted in stereo to model stone erosion details on an Historic structure. A digital camera approach is much easier to carry in the field. The images can be stored. For this example images can be taken over a period of time, acquisition time is a fraction of a second. If a comparison is required you simply call up the images and process the point cloud data, with a scanner there would be the acquisition time, stability issues on a crane, and of course the cost to process the data.

ShapeScan_SM: Data acquisition is seconds vs scanning time plus the stability issues of a scanner. At the mid range for this example of 7 meters a photogrammetry solution with stereo matching will exceed the accuracy of most scanners. Is much faster and will produce more accurate point cloud data with less editing time(cost) than using a scanner.

Utilizing its ability to match complex colored objects or continuous tone objects with its intelligent PSOI approach it can handle subjects like faces such as this example with natural lighting and no structured white light, The system also allows you go to structured white light scanning mode as well or do both simultaneously.

In this case it will read the frame sequence for moving objects or faces. It will create the matching, point cloud data, and mesh for a few images or hundreds of frames and it is done so automatically in the background.
